The National Mall Architecture Walking Tour

Discover the design, drama, and meaning behind Washington’s most iconic monuments, obscure landmarks, and hidden architectural gems.

Saturdays, Nov 29, 2025 - Nov 20, 2027. Times Vary

Explore Washington’s most famous monuments and memorials from a fresh perspective. This guided walking tour of the National Mall delves beyond the landmarks to reveal how and why they were constructed. Using architecture and design as our lens, we dive into the powerful stories, historical context, and creative decisions that shaped America’s monumental core. From Pierre L’Enfant’s visionary city plan to bold architectural innovations and contentious design debates, discover the drama and meaning embedded in every stone, statue, and landmark.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a local who’s walked the Mall a hundred times, this tour will give you a new way to see and understand the heart of the city.

Meet your guide at the base of the Washington Monument on the North side (the side facing the White House). The tour takes about 2 hours and covers approximately 1 mile, ending at the Lincoln Memorial. This walking tour is also available for private groups on foot or by car or coach.
